I've been tying out a few other book clubs over the past few months. I haven't found another steady group, but we'll see what happens.
From the regular group I attend we read:
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo-Took a little while to get into but I ended up loving this book. I would recommend this to everyone from mystery lovers to feminist theorists.
The Reliable Wife-I have a love/hate relationship with this book. The storyline is extremely far-fetched and if it had been written by a woman I'm sure it would have gone unnoticed. But I am intrigued by the event the book is based on and I do find it haunting in a certain way.
Mennonite in a Little Black Dress-Didn't have time to read this one.
Girl Who Played with Fire-While I enjoyed this series a lot, the secod book was the one I found the hardest to read. It was slow for me and I wasn't engaged. But after reading the last book I can see how it all fit together and the second book was needed for balance.
Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie-Just another percocious child genius story. I find this kind of story tedious; I know there are many who find this kind of story charming. Just not for me.
Physick Book of Deliverance Dane-How can I describe how much I hated this book? Undeveloped characters in a riduculous story that just gets more riducoulus and doesn't have a bit of suspense in it. The reader is always about four steps ahead of the annoying, dense, and dull heroine.
Room-I read this for another group I was test driving but decided against. The book itself was excellent. I thought I would hate it but could hardly put it down for the first two thirds of the book. I would recommend to anyone who likes philosophy, pop culure, or looking at a subject matter from a new angle.
Now, off to read some more...
